Crowns & Bridges (CAPS)

Crowns (Caps)

Crowns more commonly known as caps are covering on the tooth similar to shape & size of normal tooth.

Crowns are indicated in:
  • Teeth which are root canal treated.
  • Teeth broken due to injury.
  • Highly discolored teeth due to fluorosis, any systemic problem,or due to external factors like excessive beetal nut/leave chewing habits or smoking.
  • Correction of shape and size of natural teeth.
All-Porcelain/ All-Ceramic Crowns

Made from pure ceramic, this type of crowns has the most attractive appearance and in the hands of the right dentist and ceramist, blends seamlessly with your natural teeth. It may be fabricated from a wide range of dental ceramics suitable to each individual patient.

In a nutshell, there isn’t a better looking dental crown than an all-ceramic type. The life-like quality of a porcelain crown may be attributed to its natural looking colour, which can be matched to perfectly blend in with your adjacent teeth and its ability to mimic the translucency of real tooth enamel.

Porcelain-Fused-To-Metal (PFM) Crowns

A cross between metal and porcelain crowns, PFMs consist of a metal sub-structure that is layered with a veneer of porcelain, fused to the metal in a high heat oven. This hybrid composition gives the crown a tough underlying structure with a tooth-coloured exterior. PFM crowns are strong and may be used for either front or back teeth. However, whilst they can be closely matched to natural teeth, the metal sub-structure inhibits the transmission of light through the tooth and crown, and these types of restorations can look quite dull and opaque.

All-Metal Crowns

This type of crown is made out of metals or alloys, including gold, palladium, nickel or chromium. In the past it was an excellent choice for teeth that are expected to withstand heavy chewing and biting forces, usually molars located in the back of the mouth. However, the latest ceramic technology has provided an ideal substitute for teeth of this nature. Of course the biggest disadvantage of all-metal crowns is the colour that makes it unsuitable for those teeth that are aesthetically on display.

Zirconia Crowns

A zirconia crown is a popular type of all-ceramic crown which is used/placed/cemented to improve the appearance of a tooth which has become stained or disfigured over the years. They are durable and long lasting.

Plus zirconia crowns have a translucent appearance which means that they are indistinguishable from your own teeth. It is hard to spot a zirconia crown amongst natural teeth.

Bridges

These are fixed teeth made using support of adjoining teeth and are cemented on to these teeth permanently. Bridges can be used to replace small no. of missing teeth/tooth provided adjoining teeth have sufficient strength(bone support).

Metal

Nickel Chromium Alloy is used and is steel coloured in appearance.

Precious Metals

Pure Gold can also be used as a metal for crown.

Porcelain With Metal (PFM)

These are tooth coloured crowns made up of Porcelin(Ceramic) with underlying base of metal.

Full Ceramic

These are ceramic crown without any metal base underlying so are more aesthetic and natural like.
